The Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy will be visiting a different city each Wednesday in September. Each KIDS COUNT Power Lunch will feature an expert panel who will share their insight and advice with those who are ready to become child advocates. Attendees will be updated on the status of Oklahoma’s children and receive tips and a tool kit to help #BeAVoice each day on behalf of children.
We are bringing together elected officials who help craft policies that directly affect children, educators who see firsthand how many of these policies play out in the lives of children and DHS employees who work diligently to keep Oklahoma’s children safe and healthy.
The dates and locations are as follows:
September 4 // Weatherford
September 11 // Tulsa
September 18 // McAlester
September 25 // Lawton
OICA’s CEO, Terry Smith, will make a presentation highlighting the data surrounding children’s issues in the state and provide data specific to each city’s county.
“This is an exciting opportunity for us to connect with Oklahomans throughout the state, discuss the future of our children and empower them to make it brighter,” said CEO Terry Smith. “There’s no limit to what we can accomplish for children when we work together. When we take care of our children, we are laying the foundation for a better tomorrow for us all.”
We know children in our state face exceptional challenges such as poverty, abuse and poor health. Issues such as these seldom stand alone. Likewise, neither should those who address them. We are here to help empower people to become stronger voices for children.
Terry Smith concluded by saying, “We strongly believe a strategy of inclusion will be vital as we approach the upcoming legislative session and build our children’s agenda. We are not just one voice for Oklahoma’s future, we are Voices for Oklahoma’s future.”
