What ideas do you have to better the lives of Oklahoma’s children?

One important area is to advocate and assure adequate access for children who need healthcare and basic services. It is also important that our youngest children (Birth-5) have access to quality education services and parental support to give a foundation for their experience when they enter the K-12 public schools. From a legislative standpoint, it would be important for me to advocate for these two issues, child healthcare and early childhood education.

What have you done to support children prior to this election?

I have been active with the TRIO programs which help first generation college students or high school students that will be entering college, have the support that they need to be successful. I also work with the reading programs at Peggs School to help our children improve their reading skills. As a legislature, I would advocate for further training for our first generation students and our most at-risk students and also allow more flexibility for our high school students to enter a trade certification while attending high school.

What will you do to support families in your new role, if elected?

Families are the core of our communities. It is important to listen to their needs and try to be a support system for those that are in need. I am running to help protect our rural way of life and the values that our rural communities exhibit. Quality of life improvements for our most vulnerable citizens, especially our senior citizens and our at-risk youth will be a high priority for me. I am also interested in criminal justice reform to find solutions other than simply incarcerating persons for non-violent crimes, advocating for mental health initiatives and work and trade programs to assist this population to become viable and productive citizens.
