2020 Political Hacks Chili Cookoff Landing Page
This page is your resource for all things relating to the 2020 Political Hacks Chili Cookoff, presented in memory of Dr. Tom Kielhorn, a long-civic leader and political pollster who recently passed away.
On this page, you will find links to vote for the People’s Choice Chili Award winner; links to the silent auction items and instructions to bid on them, tickets for our online raffle, and a link to register to donate blood with the Oklahoma Blood Institute.
Beginning at noon on Saturday, October 17, we will be serving chili prepared by our chili chefs drive-through-style in our parking lot at 2915 N. Classen Boulevard while maintaining a safe distance from each other. If you wish to hang out at the event, we ask that you wear a mask and practice safe social distancing.
We will have notary and copying services on hand to assist those who plan to vote absentee in the November 3 general election!
The Oklahoma Blood Institute will sponsor a blood drive at the Chili Cookoff, honoring “Mighty Miller,” a third-grader battling leukemia. To register to be a donor at the event, click here. We have a goal of 50 donors, and the more who donate, the more lives we can save!
We also have great silent auction items and an online raffle. To see and bid on the silent auction items, simply point your browser here. To buy online raffle tickets and see what you might win, go here. The raffle site is also where you will be able to vote online for the People’s Choice Award for Best Chili; voting on the People’s Choice Award will close at 3:30 p.m. on October 17. Both the silent auction and raffle will remain open until noon, Monday, October 19.
We will have each entrant place samples of their chili into Styrofoam containers with lids. Our staff will mark each contestant’s sample and box them up for people to drive through and take the samples home and vote for their favorite online at this link.
Our judges (Justice Noma Gurich, Judge Trevor Pemberton, Judge Leah Edwards, Judge Thad Balkman, Judge Kevin McCray, and Judge Sheila Stinson) will issue their judgment on which of our chili chefs cooked the best-tasting chili, and this is how we will crown our Chili Champion for 2020 (at least one thing good will come out of this year!).
Proceeds from this event go to the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy to support our mission, The Donna Nigh Foundation, and Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma.
As always, this event is set up to provide a relaxing, fun event for people to have a chance to meet the candidates and members of the court who will serve as judges. This year, with COVID-19, we have done everything possible to ensure this happens from a safe social distance and require that people mask up.
If you want some great chili and to support great causes, please consider joining us for the great annual event!
